My special meal planner

I asked a few questions to my mom or interviewed her on the topic of nutrition. Nutrition is very important for our healthy living. We get nutrition from the meals we eat during the day. My mother is the meal planner at home so I had a detailed discussion with her about the meals that we eat.

I asked her it’s so hot outside. I don’t feel like eating anything. What would you do? She answered that we could make a fruit salad made up of watermelon, berries and mint. She also said that we could make some type of smoothies because it is so nutritious. It was a very good choice of her.

My next question was that why should we eat seasonal fruits? She answered that there are many reasons for eating seasonal fruits. First reason we should eat them because they are more fresh and flavorful as they are harvested at their peak ripeness. Fruits like watermelon, muskmelon and mango keep us hydrated due to their high water content. Moreover they are affordable because it is abundant and require less transportation. It also helps local farmers and promotes sustainable agriculture.

The third question of this interview was that in summers when I come home from park or anyone comes from the outside, then what should we drink? Her answer was that we should drink something that keep us hydrating and refreshed. A long glass of water we could drink. We could also drink some fruit juices like watermelon or orange juice. We could make some smoothies and eat curd which is both hydrating and soothing. She said that we should avoid less sugary caffeinated sodas which dehydrate you further.

Fourth question was that if I am eating so many fruits and drinking liquids, then why do you want me to have meals during the day? She said seasonal fruits only supply vitamins and minerals. We need mor nutrients which are provided by meals like protein, carbohydrates, fats and other vital nutrients. These nutrients help in energy production, muscle repair and overall health. Meals helps to keep you full for more time which seasonal fruits and hydrating and refreshing juices can’t.

The last question of this interview was that if I have drank so much of water and my stomach is bloating then what should I do? She answered that we should take in some slow, deep breaths. This can sometimes ease bloating. You might want to sit upright and take a gentle walk. Avoid lying down immediately.

This way I learnt a lot of insights about nutrition and now I am aware of what to eat and what not.
