Book review: The extraordinary life of Mahatma Gandhi

One of the greatest freedom fighter born in India – Mahatma Gandhi was born on 1869 in Porbandar. He was the youngest among the four children and he was very hardworking. He also stood up against racial discrimination (unfair treatment against someone or a group of people because of the colour of their skin). He also joined the fight for Indian independence by leading peaceful protests against British and negotiated on behalf of India and Indians. He was very kind hearted and helpful to others, not only to Indians but to the whole world as he setted up an ambulance during the boer war in South Africa and again on the western front during the First World War. Many people called him Mahatma (Great soul). He was respected widely and was considered the elder of the entire country and an inspiration to world leaders, he was often called Bapu-Father.

Gandhi ji belonged to the Bania Caste. He got married at the age of the 13 with a girl named Kasturba. (Fact:- Mohandas and his brother got married at the same day so that their parents could save money). Mohandas was eager to work towards improving lives of others. After finishing High School, he went to England to become a barrister(a type of Lawyer).

When he went to South Africa, it was still a British colony. He also fought with the british people in South Africa. When he came back to India he made a satyagraha ashram which was made beside the bank of river Sabarmati and hence it was called the Sabarmati ashram.

I was amazed after reading this book because it was so fascinating and and inspiration for us that we can do something meaningful in life.
