Finally, finally and finally South Africa broke their jinx and won a trophy and ended their 27 year wait by beating the most successful team Australia by 5 wickets and winning the WTC. This match was one sided very much as South Africa had 5 wickets in hand and needed one run to win. Australian Bowlers couldn’t stop South Africa to make 282 runs and win the WTC.
When South Africa had 6 test series to play they had a 30% chance of winning and had to win at least 5 from the last 6 and they did it and made it to the final and they won it also. South Africa dominated in not only this match but the whole WTC cycle.
This was the third WTC tournament and in all three we have new winner. In 2021 – New Zealand, in 2023 – Australia and now in 2025 – South Africa.
After watching the first innings of South Africa, people thought that how on earth they will be able to chase down 282. But Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma made it possible as Temba Bavuma made a half century and Aiden Markram – the centurion made an exceptional knock on this pitch of Lords.
Temba Bavuma made this team to win this title and break South Africa’s 27 year old jinx. The captain who pushed the team to glory is Temba Bavuma. The celebrations, the emotions and the fans are so adorable to watch and were mesmerising.
