On 15 august 1947, we got Independence from the cruelty of British on Indian after nearly 200 years. Due to the action of Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Rani Lakshmibai and many Indian Freedom Fighter, we got Independence.

The establishment of the East India Company

The cause of the war between the British people and the Indian people was the greediness of the British people. India was one of the main supplier of spices and indigo colour. In Europe the demand of spices and indigo colour increased and as India was the main supplier they formed a company named the East India Company. It purchased the spices and Indigo at lower prices and sold them at higher prices in European Market.

Need of Revenue

The Farmers were forced to grow cash crops only as the East India Company needed more revenue. This continued till then the farmers didn’t have money to pay revenue, then they ran away from their houses and this made the revenue of the East India Company very less. They needed money so that they could make a army so that they could annex other kingdoms And slowly get the control of the whole India.

The Revolt of 1857

This was the most famous revolt against the British led by the Great Rani Lakshmibai. She fought fearlessly and mercilessly against the British but ultimately unsuccessful rebellion against the British. The consequences were that there was a change in the British Policy and there was a Rise in Indian Nationalism.

Role of Mahatma Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi is also called the Father of the Nation, as he played an important role in India’s freedom movement by following the path of Truth and Non Violence (Ahimsa) and freed the nation from the cruel rule of British on 15th August 1947.

The consequences of the independence

There was a partition in which a new country was formed called Pakistan. There were two Pakistan – East Pakistan and West Pakistan, in which East Pakistan became the country called Bangladesh in 1971.
