Explainer – 17 – Homogenous vs Heterogenous + Solutions

If we take some sugar and water and mix them together, a well stirred mixture of them will keep the same taste throughout. Such a mixture is called homogenous mixture.

While if we take some sand and water and mix them together the sand particles are easily visible in the water and they settle down with time, such a mixture is called heterogenous mixture.

There is another name of homogenous mixtures which is SOLUTIONS.

Solutions are prepared when a Solute is mixed with a Solvent. In the mixture of sugar and water, sugar is the solute and water is the solvent.

We will learn about how to measure concentration of a solute in a solvent in the next explainer.
